Cody Rhodes was originally expected to be sidelined for nine months, but he’s reportedly ahead of schedule and can return in January

Cody Rhodes officially declared his involvement in the next 30-Man Royal Rumble Match on January 16’s “WWE Raw,” making it plain that he plans to face The Tribal Chief for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

This week’s red brand show featured the third and final “Road To Recovery” video, which is when Rhodes made the statement.

“Since I came back at WrestleMania [last year], I have made it crystal clear what I want,” Rhodes said in the video. “At the Royal Rumble, I’m back!”

Earlier in the video, Rhodes turned up to confirm a recent report from Fightful Select that declared that he started training in the ring again in December, nearly six months after having surgery to repair his torn pectoral tendon. The “WWE NXT” talents Joe Gacy and Carmelo Hayes helped Rhodes prepare for his comeback to the ring, according to a Fightful story.

The video again featured Brandi Rhodes’ statements, in which she gushed about her husband’s unwavering work ethic and resolve to return to the ring. We denoted that Rhodes would miss at least nine months of action after the second-generation wrestler underwent surgery on June 9. As a result, Rhodes’ recovery is progressing faster than expected.

Rhodes was removed from WWE television After being ambushed by Seth Rollins on June 6. Rhodes formerly stated that he was entirely focused on earning WWE’s top titles and that a fourth match or Rollins was “not on my radar.” It is equally important to be noted that Rollins just changed babyface, which can make it difficult for WWE creative to reignite the animosity between the two competitors.

Rhodes, who is the current betting favorite to win the Men’s Royal Rumble,  could be up with Reigns at WrestleMania 39. The prospective match, though, is still some time off because Reigns must defend his championship against Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble. The Rock’s appearance in next week’s “Raw Is XXX” special show, in which The Bloodline honors Reigns’ illustrious title reign, has been hinted at by WWE.
