Coco Gauff pegged to win Wimbledon next year by Martina Navratilova
Martina Navratilova believes Coco Gauff will add to her Grand Slam total next year, adding that it will most likely happen at Wimbledon.
Gauff captured her first Major title at the 2023 US Open, defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the final at Flushing Meadows. Having observed the American prodigy polish her game up close, Navratilova is certain that the grass courts at SW19 will be the 19-year-old’s next battleground.
According to the 18-time Grand Slam champion, her assertion is bolstered by the fact that grass is also four-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek’s least favorite surface.
Swiatek leads Coco Gauff in their head-to-head 9-1, which may be why Navratilova feels the grass courts at Wimbledon will help balance the field if Gauff has to face the World No. 1 in her quest for gold.
“I’d be surprised if she doesn’t win another major this year, with Wimbledon being the most likely.” It’s on grass since she’s better at the net than the others and moves so effectively. “That, and her improved drop shot,” Navratilova remarked in a WTA interview.
“I believe you’ll see the [Carlos] Alcaraz influence on the sport all over the place next year.” Coco Gauff should be the favorite on the grass. “Especially since, by her admission, it’s Iga’s most difficult surface,” she continued.
Along with Coco Gauff, Martina Navratilova predicts Ons Jabeur will win her first Grand Slam in 2024.
Martina Navratilova also predicted Ons Jabeur to win her first Grand Slam in 2024, which would halt the Tunisians’ winless skid in major finals. Jabeur is 0-3 in Slam finals, having lost the 2022 Wimbledon final to Elena Rybakina, the 2022 US Open final to Iga Swiatek, and the 2023 Wimbledon final to Marketa Vondrousova.
When it came to guessing which WTA star would win their maiden Slam next season, the former World No. 2’s diversified game style made her the “obvious” option for Navratilova. Jabeur’s terrible experience of losing three Major finals in a row, according to the American legend, will assist her the following time.
“I’m checking the rankings right now, and it has to be Ons.” She’s the obvious pick due to her game’s versatility and everything else. Wimbledon was a terrible defeat, but as the saying goes, if it doesn’t kill you, it makes you stronger. “My money’s on Ons, who is always a threat to break through on any surface,” Martina Navratilova remarked.
