Chris Woods joins Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest has made their first January signing in the form of Chris Wood from Newcastle United. He arrives on an initial loan with an option to buy in the summer of 2024.
Wood initially joined Newcastle in the 2022 winter window after the club’s takeover. For a fee of £25m, Wood was the first arrival at the club when the PIF took charge. This season, the striker has been desperate for minutes and has been mostly playing as a substitute. He has so far scored just two goals in the first half of the season.
The New Zealand international has been assigned the number 39 at Forest. Apart from that he will add much-needed firepower to the attack considering the injury to Taiwo Awoniyi.
Wood’s first words at Forest
In his first statement after joining the club, Wood said “Nottingham Forest is a massive club which I have come up against a number of times, but it’s nice now to be able to pull on the red shirt and fight for the club.”
“You can see the transition over the past 18 months and it’s progressing in the right way. It’s a project that’s going in the right direction. It’s a club looking up rather than anything else, it’s going to take a lot of hard work, but it’s a squad that’s pulling together.
“I’ve been in this league a long time, so hopefully I’ll bring a lot of experience to try and help the younger lads out and bring everybody together. As a visiting player, it’s always been a hostile atmosphere at The City Ground. The crowd is loud and strong, so I’m thankful to have that passionate fanbase on my side now and I can’t wait to get playing there.”
As per a report from 90min, Leeds United had also been enquiring about the forward, including the likes of Everton and Bournemouth who were paying close attention but never made a move. Nevertheless, it was The Tricky Trees who achieved his signing.
