Chris Simms Issues Apology for Insensitive Comments Regarding Late Dolphins Fan
Renowned NFL analyst Chris Simms, hailing from the concrete jungle of New York City, has extended a sincere apology for his previous insensitive comments concerning the passing of a devoted Miami Dolphins fan. This fan, known as Eric Carmona, had gained notoriety as the social media personality TuAnon, often engaging in playful banter with Simms and others.
During an appearance on Meadowlark Media’s God Bless Football podcast, Simms expressed genuine remorse for his initial remarks made alongside his colleague Mike Florio during PFT Live on June 8. In a moment of reflection, Simms acknowledged his disappointment in himself and his recognition that he unintentionally crossed a line.
“I’m disappointed in myself. You guys know me. I don’t try to be a bad guy. I know I got a big mouth and opinions about football,” Simms admitted. “I dropped the ball. I was insensitive. I didn’t need to go that route. I let a bigger conversation take hold of me for a second and it was the wrong time to bring it up. I meant no disrespect to Tua [Tagovailoa] or the Carmona family at all, but that was totally bad timing and insensitive by me. I got no excuse. I’m sorry. That’s all I can say.”
Here is the full context of Simms’ comments, and it’s not better.

He starts by saying it’s a nice gesture and a horrible thing, but then immediately goes into “he trolled me a lot.” Florio then goes into saying it’s better to be trolled than ignored because people are… https://t.co/N3VIWtZB3U pic.twitter.com/AB3UrH8GzU
The late Eric Carmona, a Navy veteran, tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident on June 1 in Murrieta, California, as reported by the Murrieta Police Department. At the age of 30, he was taken from his loved ones far too soon, leaving behind his wife, Vanessa, and four children. A GoFundMe campaign was established to support the Carmona family during this difficult time.
Deeply moved by the circumstances, Simms donated $1,000 to the Carmona family, with Florio also contributing $2,500, following their discussion on the generous $10,000 donation made by Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Simms expressed appreciation for Tagovailoa’s compassionate gesture, stating, “It is a nice gesture. It really is. It’s a horrible thing, a horrible accident. He obviously is a huge Tua fan. Also, a huge guy that trolled me a lot on Twitter.”
Further reflecting on the incident, Simms cautiously addressed the broader societal implications, alluding to a deeper discussion that he opted not to delve into, knowing it could potentially land him in hot water. He acknowledged the complexity of the situation, emphasizing, “We’re also setting an example like, ‘Hey here’s money to a guy who was very negative too.’ That’s all I’m saying.”
Remarkably, the GoFundMe page established for Carmona’s family has garnered an overwhelming response, with donations exceeding an incredible $110,000.
