Chiefs waive Cornerback Chris Lammons ahead of AFC Championship Game
The Kansas City Chiefs defensive backfield will be without one member for Sunday’s AFC Championship Game. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Chiefs have decided to waive cornerback Chris Lammons.
Chris Lammons has spent the last three seasons with the Chiefs after going undrafted out of South Carolina and spending a year with the Miami Dolphins. During his time in Kansas City, he appeared in 30 games, primarily on special teams, where he recorded 13 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Fans of the team have expressed confusion and surprise over the decision to waive Lammons. Some have speculated that it could be related to an assault case from the Pro Bowl last year, which has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 1st. Others have suggested that the team may be looking to activate other players, such as Marcus Kemp, or bring back Lammons to the practice squad.
It’s unclear at this time exactly why the Chiefs have made this decision, but it’s clear that it will have an impact on their defensive backfield for the upcoming game against the Bengals. The Chiefs will need to make up for the loss of Lammons, either by activating other players or finding a way to fill the void he leaves on special teams. The Chiefs face the Bengals on January 29th at 6:30 PM ET.
