According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Chicago Bulls want to sign veteran guard Patrick Beverley to a deal for the rest of the season. According to Wojnarowski, the team’s front staff is hoping that Beverley can provide some toughness as they seek to reclaim a playoff spot.

Beverley averaged 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 45 games for the Lakers this season, all of which he started. He also shot 34.8 percent from outside the arc. His most noteworthy incidents with the team include pushing Deandre Ayton, for which he received a three-game ban, and using a courtside photographer’s camera to record a foul on LeBron James in the last seconds of regulation during the Los Angeles Lakers defeat to the Miami Heat.

In an effort to acquire backup center Mo Bamba, the Los Angeles Lakers traded Beverley to the Orlando Magic earlier this month. Beverley was released by the Magic three days later, at which point he was a free agent. Beverley joins the Bulls amid rumors that point guard Lonzo Ball would miss the whole season due to a knee ailment that has kept him out of action since January 2022. To make room on the roster for Beverley, Chicago will have to release one of its players.

After acquiring guard Gary Payton II from the Portland Trail Blazers in a four-team trade at the deadline, the Warriors attempted to improve the depth of their backcourt and team defense. However, a physical revealed that Payton had more serious injuries than first thought, and he will be out for at least a month with a core muscle injury. Golden State will mostly use the guard line-up of Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole, and Donte DiVincenzo until they return, so Beverley would have had some opportunity, but the appeal of playing in his hometown was just too much to pass up.
