Chamika Karunaratne Steps In for Dasun Shanaka in Sri Lanka Squad Due to Injury

Sri Lanka’s cricket team has made a change in their World Cup squad. Captain Dasun Shanaka got injured during their match against Pakistan. He hurt his quadriceps muscle, and it will take about three weeks to recover. During this time, Sri Lanka will have played most of their matches.

Chamika Karunaratne is replacing Shanaka. He’s a versatile player who can bowl and bat. While Shanaka is known for his batting, Karunaratne is more known for his bowling skills. He was already with the team as a backup player and will be ready to play against Australia on Monday.

Kusal Mendis will now lead the team because he has been the vice-captain for a few months. Even though Shanaka is not playing, he will stay with the team for now.

Shanaka’s performance with the bat had not been great recently, which put his position in the team in doubt. However, under his captaincy, the team did well in the World Cup Qualifier and reached the final of the Asia Cup played in Sri Lanka.

But in this World Cup, Sri Lanka hasn’t done well. They lost to South Africa and Pakistan and gave away a lot of runs. Adding a player like Karunaratne, who can both bowl and bat, might help improve their performance.
