Carragher demands Klopp change things at Liverpool
There is no doubt now that Liverpool needs a revamp. There is nothing left for Liverpool to play for after being eliminated from the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and now the Champions League. In the league, the best that Jurgen Klopp can aim for is a top-four finish.
During all the struggles, fingers have been raised at Trent Alexander-Arnold, who as good as he is offensively, he fails to deliver when it comes to defending. He visibly struggled to keep hold of Brazilian winger, Vinicius Jr who ran riot at the Liverpool back line.
Trent’s lack of defensive quality has been on display over the last couple of seasons. Thus, former Liverpool defender and now football pundit, Jamie Carragher has spoken about the dire need for a proper world-class right back. During the interview, he explained why Klopp needs to sign a new right-back.
What did Carragher have to say?
While talking to CBS Sports, Carragher said, “What’s happened this season with him lacking defensively can’t continue. The problem they have got in that position is they have never had real competition. And one of the reasons why is because he has been so good.
“You think, who do you buy, how much do you spend for someone who is not really going to play every week? Liverpool is at the point now where they have got to go and buy a right-back. It’s Jurgen Klopp’s decision in terms of how good that right-back is and how much he costs.
“But that lad needs serious competition. He has played at that top level, week in and week out for five years. He’s done fantastic and I’m so proud of him. But he needs help. And at the end of this season, have a long think about where he is at as a right-back.”
