Carli Lloyd Describes What Went Wrong With USWNT In 2023 Women’s World Cup

Former USWNT star Carli Lloyd described what went wrong with USWNT in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Carli said, “…it’s a wake-up call for the entire program.”

Two-time World Cup Champion and FIFA Player of the Year, Carli Lloyd explained why U.S. Women’s national team failed this year. 41, Carli hasn’t been afraid to give her opinion on USWNT.

In an interview with Fox News, Carli explained how the program is failing at the U17 level and U20 level as the development of players needs to improve. She also said that this is a humble moment for the USWNT team to leave their comfort zone.

Carli said, “It used to be that everyone feared the U.S. and the U.S. was always going in confident to these tournaments but I think when you win, it’s easy to get comfortable. I think this is a humble moment for the program, the players, for the coaching staff, and it’s a wake-up call for the entire program.”

There is no question asked what Carli said about USWNT getting comfy in the 2023 World Cup is absolutely correct. From the beginning, USWNT hasn’t shown any interest and took the opponent lightly. Leaving debutant Vietnam, there was nothing exceptional about the U.S. Women’s National team in the 2023 World Cup.

Earlier this week USWNT was sent back home early by Sweden through penalty kicks (5-4). It was shocking to soccer fans who were hoping for USWNT would bring the third World Cup to the home.

Unfortunately, the journey of the U.S. Women’s National Team ends earlier than expected.
