Carli Lloyd Clarifies Her Comments On USWNT After Draw Against Portugal and Her Passion for the Team
After the USWNT’s exciting draw with Portugal, soccer analyst Carli Lloyd shared her honest thoughts about the team’s performance on FOX.
Lloyd was a bit frustrated and said, “There’s a difference between being respectful of the fans and being ‘hello’ to your family. But to be dancing? To be smiling? I mean, the player of the match was that post. You are lucky to not be going home right now.”
Many fans reacted strongly to Lloyd’s comments, but some agreed with her concerns.
The next day, during the World Cup coverage, Carli Lloyd wanted to explain her critical remarks about the USWNT. She clarified, “I’d like to state that obviously I was very critical of the team last night. I’ve had some time to reflect, to sleep on it. I want people to understand that I care deeply about this team. I poured my heart and soul into this team for 17 years, and it was based off of a legacy that was passed down from generation to generation – the mentality, the DNA of what makes that team so great. My comments were reflective on me wanting to see that legacy continue to be passed down from generation to generation.”

Her explanation seemed fair and sincere.
The USWNT will be playing against Sweden on Sunday, and a win in the knockout stage could help ease some of the concerns.
