Cancelo linked to FC Barcelona for a key reason
Cancelo to Barcelona might be more feasible than you know
It was after a reported feud with Pep Guardiola that Cancelo was allowed to leave in January. Bayern Munich were quick to grab on to the opportunity and brought in the Portuguese Left-back on loan until the summer.
As we have seen in the past, with loan moves of James Rodriguez and Philippe Coutinho, Bayern hesitates when it comes to spending big bucks to make such moves permanent. Similarly, as per Diario Sport’s Albert Masnou, the Bavarians have decided to let go of the purchase option. They have informed Manchester City that they will not be triggering the buyout clause worth €70m. The full-back has claimed the starting role at the Allianz Arena but as of late has lost the manager’s trust.
The problem for the Citizens continues as they themselves don’t want to continue with Cancelo either. The most realistic case is to sell him in the summer or at least another season-long loan. Here is where the case for Barcelona is getting stronger.
Barcelona Situation
Cash-strapped Catalans will be unable to match the price tag set by City. However, Joan Laporta might be able to strike a loan deal given his good relationship with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes.
Barcelona has been in dire need of a world-class right-back since Dani Alves left back in 2016. His versatility to be able to play on either flank and as an interior makes him an interesting option for the Blaugrana.
In the 33 games he has featured for City and Bayern, the 28-year-old has managed to score twice and provide 8 assists.
