Canada and the USWNT release a joint statement in favor of gender equality
Americans on the women’s national team played the “SheBelieves Cup” opener on Thursday with white and purple wristbands as a show of support for both transgender persons in general and their Canadian opponents. Players from Canada likewise wore purple tape on their right wrists and white tape around their left wrists. In order to conceal the Canadian Soccer Association insignia, they originally warmed up in reverse.
Since their conflict with the CSA, turned violent last week, the Canadian members have decided to protest. They are incensed because the CSA drastically reduced the player’s funds about six months prior to the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The players claim that because of budget constraints, their Cup Final practices have been impacted by a reduced staff, shorter practice sessions, and also an underfunded youth development scheme.
USWNT release a joint statement
The American Players Union released a statement “Although we are now on the other side of this fight and can focus on our play on the field. our counterparts in Canada and elsewhere are experiencing the same pervasive misogyny and unequal treatment that we faced We stand with all women’s footballers in calling attention to their collective fight, but also call on everyone to join and support the fight to eradicate ALL inequality and discrimination that exists in our sport.”
