There’s no doubt now โ€“ Caitlin Clark is the top women’s basketball player in the country. On Wednesday, the University of Iowa star point guard was named the 2023 Naismith Women’s Player of the Year.

Clark ranks third in the nation, scoring 27.3 points per game and leading with 8.6 assists per game. She also grabs 7.3 rebounds per game. On Sunday, she became the first player in NCAA Tournament history โ€“ for both men and women โ€“ to achieve a 40-point triple-double. She’s the second Hawkeye to win the award after Megan Gustafson in 2019.

Other finalists for the award included last year’s winner, South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston, Virginia Tech’s Elizabeth Kitley, and Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist. Clark will face Boston on Friday evening at 8:30 pm on ESPN.

The winner was chosen through media and fan voting. Over 750,000 fans voted this year, setting a new record for the award.
