Bucknell Bison’s Head Coach Nathan Davis Fired After 8 Seasons
One of the longest-tenured college basketball head coaches got fired on Thursday afternoon. Nathan Davis, Bucknell’s head coach for 8 seasons, was released after the team’s regular poor performance since 2019.
Before that, Nathan’s tenure in starting three seasons for the Bucknell was the epitome of his overall career and brings success to him and the team. Bucknell ended in three postseasons and two NCAA Tournament appearances. However, the team hasn’t won a single trophy since 2019.
The decision of firing the head coach was expected and it was confirmed on Thursday by Stadium basketball analyst Jeff Goodman.
Looking at the records and performances of Bucknell this season, it was the right time for them to release Davis. With an overall record of 12-20 and a 5-13 record in the Patriot League, Bison will finish last in the conference rankings clearly. However, it was a better performance from them considering their last year’s stats of 9-23 (5-13).
As the head coach of Division III’s Randolph-Macon, Davis had seen great success, making it to the DIII tournament each of the six seasons he coached there. He used that achievement into a position at Bucknell and earned consecutive NCAA Tournament seasons in 2016–17 and 2017–18. However, despite winning the Patriot League in 2018–19, the Bison missed the tournament. Yet the program’s fortunes have now taken a turn for the worst.
As Bucknell tries to return to the Patriot League ranks and competes with teams like Colgate, Navy, and Lehigh, we’ll see whom they decide to fill the gap that Davis’ waiving caused.
