Buccaneers’ Head Coach Shuts Down Rumors of Lamar Jackson Trade

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach, Todd Bowles, has addressed rumors that the team is pursuing Baltimore Ravens quarterback, Lamar Jackson, who recently announced his request for a trade. Coach Bowles confirmed that the Buccaneers are not planning to make a move for Jackson due to their financial situation.

“We’re shedding a lot of money,” Bowles said in response to a question about the possibility of pursuing Jackson. “We couldn’t afford to make a competitive offer but think he’s a great player.”

The Buccaneers have recently signed veteran quarterback, Baker Mayfield, to a one-year deal to compete with Kyle Trask for the starting quarterback position. The team’s salary cap situation made it difficult to pursue Jackson, who has been heavily speculated as a potential trade target. Despite this, the Buccaneers’ front office and staff have shown their support for a quarterback battle this offseason, and Mayfield is aware of the situation.

The Buccaneers may still need to add another quarterback to their roster, either through free agency or the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. With Jackson now officially requesting a trade, many teams are expected to show interest in the star quarterback. However, it seems that the Buccaneers will not be among them.
