Brook Lopez might get taken from Bucks by 3 Frontrunners
Brook Lopez had a disappointing end to his recent season with the Milwaukee Bucks. They were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round by the Miami Heat. However, this didn’t take away from Lopez’s great performance. He scored an average of 15.9 points per game, shooting 53.1% from the field and 37.4% from three-point range. Now he is heading into free agency without any restrictions.
In addition, Lopez had an impressive contribution on the defensive end. He averaged 6.7 rebounds per game and 2.5 blocks per game, establishing himself as one of the league’s strong defensive forces. In the end, he finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year voting, with Jaren Jackson Jr. from the Memphis Grizzlies taking the top spot.
After significantly improving his performance during the 2022-23 NBA season, the big question now is how Lopez will benefit financially from his success. It seems that there are three main contenders interested in acquiring him and potentially luring him away from the Milwaukee Bucks.
The first contender is his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite having a strong presence and being one of their key players in the 2017-18 season, the Lakers chose not to re-sign him when his contract expired.
In a subsequent interview on “The Lowe Post” podcast, Lopez expressed his surprise at how his time with the Lakers came to an end.
“I was a little surprised (they didn’t come after me harder),” he said.
“It just didn’t end up working out. It kind of went in one direction pretty quickly. From that point, I was looking at other options.”
That said, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, unlike the broken relationship between L.A. and Julius Randle, there isn’t any bad blood between Lopez and the Lakers.
“The bridge isn’t burned with Brook Lopez after his rough 2017-18 season in L.A., but the fact of the matter is that the Lakers aren’t going to get him for the non-taxpayer midlevel exception (projected to be about $12.2 million),” he wrote. “Lopez has earned more than that.”
If Lopez doesn’t agree to accept less money to play for the Lakers, the Houston Rockets might be interested in signing him. According to Kelly Iko of The Athletic, the Rockets really want Lopez on their team. This is because Lopez is good at offense, defense, and leading the team, which would make him a great fit under their new coach, Ime Udoka.
Don’t forget about the Dallas Mavericks either. They need to make some changes after not making it to the playoffs last season. While people are mostly talking about whether Kyrie Irving will stay or leave, it’s clear that Lopez would be a great addition to their team.
If Lopez joins the Mavericks, he would add more scoring power to help Luka Doncic and possibly Irving. He would also provide much-needed defense to a team that didn’t have much last year.
Now the bug question is how will Mavs, make the financial situation work. With L. A. In a conversation with Mike Scotto of HoopsHype, Lopez said he loved Milwaukee.
“I love it here,” Lopez remarked.
“I’m so thankful for the opportunity the Bucks gave me five years ago to come here and be a part of something special. We had a great time. I can’t imagine being anywhere else.”
If somehow Bucks can make a better offer to Loopz, He might be ready to stay with them for a longer time.
