Brian Branch returns to play after ankle injury
Early in the second half against the Green Bay Packers, nickel cornerback Brian Branch of the Detroit Lions sustained an ankle injury. The first-year player remained on the pitch for a while before leaving very gently. He had to be eventually carried inside the locker room. The team officially reported him as having a doubtful ankle injury to return to the game.
As you can see in the final footage below, Branch looked to land a little awkwardly on his right foot or leg during the play:
It would be a serious setback for the Lions’ defense if Branch were to miss any sizable amount of time. Through three weeks, the second-round choice of the Lions has been among the top rookie defenders in football, with 18 tackles, three passes intercepted, three tackles for loss, and a pick-six.
Will Harris, a seasoned defensive back, took Branch’s place, leaving the Lions’ secondary utterly destroyed by injuries. Detroit already needed Kerby Joseph, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley.
