Bob Bryan praised Ben Shelton and Sebastian Korda for their entertaining Shanghai Masters QF encounter
Bob Bryan praised Sebastian Korda and Ben Shelton for their thrilling performance in the 2023 Shanghai Masters quarterfinal match.
Korda beat Shelton 6-7(10), 6-2, 7-6(6) in an all-American quarterfinal at the ATP Masters 1000 event. The fierce combat in the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena lasted two hours and 55 minutes.
Korda, who improved to 7-5 against top-20 opponents this season, became the first American semi-finalist in the Shanghai tournament’s history.
Bob Bryan, who, together with his brother Mike, is one of tennis’ most successful men’s doubles pairs, recently turned to social media to praise Ben Shelton and Sebastian Korda for their amazing performance in the Shanghai quarterfinals.
“Great match, Fellas? @sebastiankorda @benshelton @rolexshmasters,” Bryan captioned his Instagram story.
“My ultimate goal in tennis is to win two Grand Slams, one more than my dad” – Sebastian Korda
In tennis, Sebastian Korda’s “ultimate goal” is to win two Grand Slam championships. He stated that his goal was simple: to exceed his father Petr’s Major triumphs and proudly claim the status of having succeeded more.
In 1998, Petr Korda won the Australian Open, defeating former World No. 1 Marcelo Rios in the final. It was his only Slam championship before retiring from professional tennis in 2005.
Meanwhile, his son Sebastian reached the Australian Open quarterfinals, his finest result at a Grand Slam competition to date.
Sebastian Korda, who is presently participating in the Shanghai Masters, defeated Ben Shelton to get to the Masters 1000 semifinals.
Korda remarked on the unusual experience of being born into a sporty family like his own. His mother, Regina, was a tennis player, and his sisters, Jessica and Nelly, have established themselves as successful LPGA Tour golfers.
The American is not under any obligation to pursue his interest. He did, however, joke about wanting to end his career with one more Major championship than his father.
“I don’t think it creates any pressure. In the end, we’re all doing what we love to do. Tennis is something that I love doing. It doesn’t matter if it’s playing or watching; I watch tennis all day long, basically. I really enjoy being here, really enjoy playing tennis,” Sebastian Korda said.
“Same thing with my sisters,” he added. “They love doing what they’re doing. I don’t think there’s any pressure on it. Obviously, I would love to be better than my dad. My ultimate goal in tennis is to win two Grand Slams, one more than my dad.”
“That’s just, you know, little things like that, but I don’t think there’s any pressure. I really love playing tennis and just really having a lot of fun right now,” he added.
