Blunt Reaction from Stephen Curry on Jordan Poole’s Trading News
The Golden State Warriors made a surprising trade by sending Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Chris Paul. This move was unexpected because the Warriors had recently signed Poole to a four-year contract worth potentially $140 million.
However, there were issues brewing between Poole and the team. He had a strained relationship with Draymond Green, tensions with Klay Thompson, and was becoming unhappy with his role on the team. It became clear that the situation between Poole and the organization was becoming difficult to manage.
As a result, a change needed to happen, and it did with the trade.
This week, Warriors star Stephen Curry offered his blunt thoughts on the Poole-for-Paul trade.
“You hate losing JP,” Curry told Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “I know it’s not all the way official yet. So I don’t want to talk too much before it is. But that’s the tough part of the business, seeing a young guy come into his own (and then get traded).
“It’s a great opportunity for him. It’s just you get to know someone like that, build a friendship, build a bond. It’s tough to see him go. But, you know, we’re trying to win next year and CP can help us do that.”
After being traded, it was evident that Poole was happy to leave the Golden State Warriors. Head coach Steve Kerr’s comments following the trade also suggested that this was probably best for everyone involved. Even Curry had some uncomfortable moments with Poole last year.
The Washington Wizards have a clear plan for Poole, and his success or failure there will depend on his own abilities. Although Curry may have hoped for a different outcome with Poole, the situation is what it is.
Only time will tell who will ultimately benefit the most from the situation between Poole and the Warriors.
