Ben An responds to his 3-month ban on social media: “I regret not being thorough in my decision making”

Ben An, a South Korean golfer, received disappointing news on Wednesday when he was barred from the PGA Tour for three months. The golfer tested positive for a prohibited substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

This banned substance was found in a cough medicine offered over the counter in South Korea, which An purchased in August. While the 32-year-old golfer regrets taking the medication, he went on to discuss the actual incident.

NUCLR initially shared Ben An’s answer on their X account, which reads:

“In August, I was suffering from a head cold and cough. As my symptoms worsened, my mother suggested I take a widely available medication from Korea that had helped her through a similar ailment.”

An, on the other hand, admits in the same Instagram message that he regrets his decision:

“It was the only time I used this medication, and in no way did I take it to gain a competitive advantage. I regret not being more thorough in my decision-making and take full responsibility for my actions.”

The only error Ben An made at the time was failing to inspect the medication’s accessible contents.

When An found out about it, he was devastated since the PGA Tour barred him from participating in the events. The 2015 BMW PGA Championship winner also praised the PGA Tour for their assistance during the process. He is also glad for the opportunity to return to the road in the new year.

A look at the PGA Tour’s decision to exclude Ben An from competing

Following the test on Wednesday, the tour issued an official statement. It was announced that An will be barred from performing on the tour commencing August 31. However, the World No. 53 will return to the greens on December 1.

Jay Monahan, commissioner of the PGA Tour, stated:

“An tested positive for a substance prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency contained in a cough medicine available over the counter in his native Korea. He has cooperated fully with the tour throughout the process and accepted his suspension.”

Because of that schedule, Ben An will miss the whole autumn season of the tour, although it will not affect his position in 2024.
