Bayern looks for a long-term solution given Neuer’s injury
Bayern Munich keeper recently suffered a horrible injury in a skiing accident. As per a report from Sport1’s Kerry Hau, the Bavarian executives are worried about the longevity of the keeper’s injury. They are aware that it could last longer than they are expecting and the keeper’s form itself might not be the same when he returns.
Although the club is optimistic that Neuer will return by pre-season next year, there are doubts given the player’s age and fitness. Thus, the board has decided to go all in for a new long-term goalkeeper, not just someone who can play a temporary role.
Will Neuer be ready for Bayern?
As of now, the club has been in talks with Yann Sommer’s entourage about a 2.5-year deal. Sommer has been a staple at Borussia Monchengladbach since 2014.
It is understandable that Bayern’s executives are worried about Neuer’s absence. The German is now 36 years old and suffered a horrific injury. It is believed that the German will not be able to regain his agility and reflexes and his ability to make rush movements. In such a case, it is unlikely that he will be able to replicate his past success.
On the other hand, some believe that Neuer is well capable of finding his old form despite his age and fitness levels. Considering, how solid the Bavarians have been throughout the last decade and the success they have achieved, the goalkeeping department has been the most decisive. Thus, Bayern will not rely on anything less than reliable. Therefore, the January transfer window will be critical for the German outfit if they wish to recruit in the goalkeeping department.
