Barcelona Midfielder To Compete For His Place At The Club
Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie is currently struggling for game time at Camp Nou. The club is looking to move him on but the Ivorian is keen to stay and fight for his place in the starting 11. As per 90min, Kessie could be sold to the maker room for a new signing.
The 26-year-old moved to the Catalan club as a free agent after fulfilling his contract at Ac Milan. After spending five years at the San Siro, he signed for a four-year deal with the Blaugrana.
Kessie has failed to solidify his place as a starter under Xavi’s tactics. Despite suffering injury, the Ivorian sits fourth in the pecking line behind Gavi, Pedri, and Frenkie De Jong in the center-midfield department.
As per a report from 90min, Barcelona has eyes on Marcelo Brozovic. The club is hoping to land a swap deal which will see Kessie going the other way in exchange for the Croatian. However, it is believed that the Ivorian is reluctant to leave the club and wants to compete for game time.
Recently, it was informed that Brozovic had no intention of leaving Inter after the Super Copa Italia win. Nevertheless, the Catalan club is planning to renegotiate the contract terms, depending on how the game time he would receive. Is it too soon for Barcelona to make up their mind on Kessie? Some are of the opinion that he doesn’t fit into Xavi’s tactics while some believe he simply needs more time to settle in.
Kessie’s Background
Kessie earned himself a move to Barcelona after a spectacular showing for the Rossoneri. He was undoubtedly one of the best center midfielders in Serie A over the past few seasons. He was a regular starter and contributed with both goals and assists. A rather defensive midfielder who was strong on the ball and liked to forward providing physicality in the center of the field.
The 2021-22 season turned out to be crucial in the club’s history as they won their first Serie title in 11 years. It was Kessie’s last season at the club during which he scored 7 goals. The Ivorian confirmed his departure after the final game of the season, defeating Sassuolo 3-0 to clinch the title.
So far this season, Kessie has featured in 17 games for Barcelona, scoring once.
