Babar Azam’s Father Addresses Disparaging Remarks Made by Mohammad Asif About His Son

Azam Siddiqui, the father of Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, has spoken out in response to a statement made by former Pakistan seamer, Mohammad Asif. Asif claimed that even today, he could bowl a maiden over to Babar Azam, and he justified this statement by saying that Babar Azam couldn’t hit the ball if someone bowled good deliveries to him.

Babar’s father has now addressed Asif’s comment. He clarified that his son had played a maiden over as a sign of respect when facing Asif during his U16 days. Babar had done this because Asif had recommended him for selection during ZTBL trials after observing his performance. Babar’s father also appealed to fans not to get carried away with their comments about Asif and requested them not to attack him verbally.

“I selected Babar Azam in the trials after he faced two balls only, you can ask his father that I picked Babar in ZTBL trials. I rate highly, he is one of the best batters in the country but he plays dots in the power-play and puts pressure on Rizwan. I can bowl a maiden over to Babar Azam in T20 cricket even today, he cannot hit the ball if you bowl good deliveries to him,” Asif had said in an X space.

Mohammad Asif had a notable career representing Pakistan in 23 Test matches, 38 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 11 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), where he managed to take 165 wickets across all these formats. He was recognized as one of the most formidable bowlers in cricket history. Unfortunately, his promising career was cut short due to his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal during Pakistan’s tour of England in 2010, which led to his abrupt exit from the sport.
