Ashlyn Whimpey: The Face of March Madness Memes After Utah State’s Loss Reacts with Positivity
Utah State Cheerleader Ashlyn Whimpey is taking her team’s loss in stride, despite becoming the face of one of the most viral moments on social media during the NCAA men’s college basketball tournament. The Aggies were eliminated from the first round of the tournament after a tough 76-65 loss to Missouri. As the final seconds ticked off the clock, Whimpey was caught on camera shedding a few tears for her team.
Despite the heartbreak, Whimpey is embracing the attention and has even posted a video showing some of the tweets about her viral moment on both TikTok and Instagram Reels. On TikTok, she captioned the video, “Now I’m a meme,” while on Instagram she added the hashtag, “going out with a bang #marchsadness.”
Whimpey has also received an outpouring of support from Aggies player Sean Bairstow, with whom she is reportedly dating. After her moment went viral, Bairstow took to Instagram to congratulate her on a successful 20 years of cheer. Whimpey responded by praising him for his hard work on the team.
The Tigers, who defeated the Aggies, will go on to play the 15th-seeded Princeton Tigers in the second round of the South Region. Princeton managed to upset No. 2 seed Arizona, and they continued their success by beating Missouri on Saturday. Unfortunately, Utah State has not been as successful in recent years, having dropped their last 10 tournament games since their victory over Ohio State in the first round back in 2001.
Despite the loss, Ashlyn Whimpey has shown remarkable sportsmanship and resilience. Her positive attitude and ability to find humor in the midst of disappointment have made her an inspiration to fans and athletes alike.
