What happened in the match?
Sunday’s match was crucial for the title race. It was an action-packed match with a dramatic ending as Arsenal took home 3-points in a 3-2 display.
It was Rashford who opened the scoring for United just a few moments before Nketiah. Soon after Saka scored from long-range to give Arsenal the lead. However, a strong header from Martinez canceled out the lead. In the end, it was a 90th-minute winner from Nketiah to seal the deal for Arsenal as fans produced the fireworks.
This win saved Arsenal from the shame of losing both legs to Man United. Earlier this season it was Manchester United who defeated Arsenal and until today are the only team this season to defeat Arsenal in the league. Moreover, this puts Man United and Arsenal 11 points apart in the league table.
Meanwhile, even Erling Haaland’s hat trick against the Wolves was not enough to reduce the gap for City. Arteta’s Arsenal still maintains a five-point lead over Pep Guardiola’s men that too with a game in hand.
A draw might not have hurt either team. However, Arsenal really needed the win to solidify their spot on the top and maintain the substantial lead over City. For the Red Devils, the defeat will come as a reality check and allow them to bounce back even stronger.
