Antetokounmpo attempted to select Ja Morant as a reserve
James surprised everyone when he chose Damian Lillard as his first reserve instead of selecting Jrue Holiday, his point guard from the Bucks, as his first selection. Nonetheless, Antetokounmpo’s attempt to select Ja Morant as a reserve when he is actually a starter was the highlight of the inaugural live draught of the NBA All-Star teams. When LeBron laughed, host Ernie Johnson had to gently correct him.
That’s precisely what Antetokounmpo did, saying that before starting Morant, he had to make sure he was on stage. Julius Randle, a standout for the Knicks, was chosen as a backup for Team LeBron. Around the trade deadline, Kyrie Irving, a former teammate of James’s with the Cavs, switched from the Nets to the Mavericks rather than the Lakers. If Irving chooses free agency after the season, he may still wind up in Los Angeles. The final reserve selected was Jaren Jackson Jr. of the Grizzlies.
Five years ago, the NBA changed the East vs. West structure to two teams headed and chosen by the top vote-getters. Nonetheless, this was the first time the squads were chosen in-game, live, and without previous notice. James has a perfect 5-0 record as captain and will want to keep it that way.
