Ansu Fati’s father urges Barcelona to trust the No. 10
Ansu Fati’s father speaks up on the lack of opportunities for his son
Ansu Fati‘s father has come to his aid and spoken out about the situation the youngster is in at Barcelona. Once considered the brightest La Masia graduate of the modern era, Fati has fallen from grace.
Despite showing signs of brilliance early on, Ansu has been a victim of serious knee injuries which has kept him in and out of action for more than two years now. The 20-year-old has received little game time this season and hasn’t scored since netting in the 3-0 win over Villarreal back in October.
Fati was given the iconic No.10 shirt previously worn by Lionel Messi. However, the pressure of the expectations that the jersey brings has taken a toll on the young striker. Fati looks out of form and lacks sharpness leading to less game time.
However, Bori Fati believes that his son will sooner or later get frustrated by the way Xavi is using him in the side. his son deserves more game time and is frustrated at the way he’s being used by Xavi at Camp Nou.
What did Bori Fati have to say?
“As a father I am angry, yes, like any father. Because seeing Ansu play so little makes you a little angry. I tell them that we deserve much more. Ansu when he played before getting injured, there was Messi, [Luis] Suarez, [Ousmane] Dembele, [Antoine] Griezmann,” he told COPE.
“It bothers me that they give him a minute, two minutes or three minutes. The forwards that are there are phenomenal, but we are talking about Ansu Fati, from the Spanish national team, he is not just any boy. He’s a boy who left La Masía. If you don’t give him that, what are you going to give him? Ansu deserves much more, we’re talking about Barcelona’s ’10.'”
Bori Fati stated that he might be open to the idea of his son leaving Barcelona, but said that such is not the case for the time being as Ansu loves Camp Nou.
“At Barca they tell me that they bet a lot on Ansu, they tell me that clearly. When I sat down with Jorge Mendes [his representative], the first thing he told me was that Ansu wants to stay and will continue playing for Barcelona. But I, as a father, thought otherwise, and Ansu doesn’t agree with that,” he added.
This season, Fati has started in just nine games while scoring thrice. The lack or game time also comes due to an abundance of attacking options Barcelona had this season. An out-of-form Fati fell down the pecking order with Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Dembele, Memphis Depay, Ferran Torres all ahead of Ansu. Even during injuries and suspensions, Xavi preferred to use Gavi as a false winger, thus limiting Fati’s game time.
