Another disappointing end to Virat’s captaincy!
After India’s massive loss against Pakistan and NZ, Virat has been badly trolled throughout social media sites. The trollers are mocking the pair of Shastri and Kohli like anything. Also losing the only opportunity to qualify for the semis was another disappointing thing that waited to happen. With India’s disastrous exit from the T20 World Cup 2021 Virat’s captaincy has also come to its end.
Back and again consistently poor management of the team’s potential has led Kohli to end his career as the captain of India. Rohit Sharma has been chosen by the BCCI as the new captain of India. Though Kohli has played tough in the T20 WC 2021 against Pakistan, anything less is never enough.
Sunil Gavaskar while speaking with Sports Today has appreciated the Indian skipper for his bag full of talent, said that he and his boys have played well in the tests also and won many tough matches. The former cricketer said:
“When you look at bilateral series, whether it’s at home or overseas, India have won most of them. But India hasn’t done that well in multi-country events. You’ve got to balance that out. India has won more matches under Virat Kohli than under any other captain that I can think of.”
Talking further about the Indian skipper’s brilliance, Gavaskar explained exactly what he is trying to convey :
“I would prefer an ICC trophy because a multi-country event championship is something that you would cherish. But it also depends on which bilateral series that you are talking about. If you win a bilateral series against Australia, then that’s also as big as maybe winning the World Cup. Similarly, you will also cherish a T20I series win over England and West Indies.”
Standing on the positive side and backing India for its past performances, there are still many players as well as the Indian cricket team’s fans who think that there is a question mark over Kohli-Shastri’s pair.
One of them is former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria who believes that India has not played its quality game in the T20 WC and was disqualified too soon. The 40-year old said:
“India hasn’t played good cricket and hence they did not get a chance to move forward. There were a lot of problems. There is a question mark over Virat Kohli’s captaincy along with the team management, including Ravi Shastri.”
Kaneria bluntly put up the questions on the overall management along with Shastri’s guidance.
As suggested earlier, Kohli needed to work and play upon different captain’s experiences including his own. He needed to look upon every boy’s potential and skillfully bring the out of him as Dhoni has done every time. Also, he was expected to bring the cup home along with his boys.
There were and there are many expectations, no doubt the Indian Cricket fans are disappointed with the performance but India has always bounced stronger. Maybe not this time but definitely some other time.
As now Rohit and Dravid have been appointed by BCCI officially as India’s Skipper and Head Coach new expectations are budding in the mind and souls of Indians.
India will be seen playing its last game against Namibia on Monday 8th November at 7:30 pm (IST).
