Andy Murray sends best wishes to Pete Sampras and his wife Bridgette Wilson amid ovarian cancer battle

Andy Murray, a former world no. 1 player, recently wished Pete Sampras and his wife Bridgette Wilson well as they faced a difficult fight with ovarian cancer.

On May 29, 2000, Sampras announced his engagement to Wilson, a former American actress, singer, and model. The couple married on September 30, 2000. Ryan Nikolaos Sampras (18) and Christian Charles Sampras (20) are the couple’s two kids.

Before retiring in 2003, the American ace won 14 Grand Slam championships. On October 29, he revealed via the ATP Tour on X (formerly Twitter) that his wife had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer since last December.

“I am a rather quiet and private person, as most have come to know. But my family has been going through a really difficult period lately, so I’ve chosen to talk about it,” he stated.

“My wife Bridgette received an ovarian cancer diagnosis last December. She underwent a significant surgery after that, persevered through chemotherapy, and is still receiving targeted maintenance therapy,” he continued.

The 52-year-old went on to talk about how challenging the situation has been for his family and gave his wife props for her bravery and resilience in handling her health issues.

“Watching someone you care about face such a hardship is difficult. But it’s been incredible to watch our guys stand up and support me, Bridgette, and each other so much. It has been encouraging to see Bridgette remain a fantastic wife and mother throughout it all.” Sampras remarked.

“Additionally, I’ve discovered how difficult it may be to ask for help when a subject is just too difficult to broach. I will respectfully ask for your kind thoughts and prayers for our family as Bridgette continues to heal as I wrap up this. I’m grateful,” he said.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has now taken to X to extend his best wishes to the Sampras family and wrote:

“All the best to your wife and your family Pete [Praying emoji].”
