Breaking News: Andy Dalton signs 2-year deal with Carolina Panthers

Andy Dalton, a quarterback who started 14 games for the New Orleans Saints last season, is set to join the Carolina Panthers on a two-year contract worth $10 million, with $8 million guaranteed. The contract could reach a maximum of $17 million, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Although the Panthers are expected to select a quarterback in next month’s NFL Draft, Dalton’s veteran status could give the team flexibility in not starting a rookie quarterback immediately. His experience and leadership could also make him a valuable resource for the team even if he serves as a backup.

Dalton, who started 14 games for the New Orleans Saints last season, has started 162 games over his 12-year NFL career. He spent nine seasons as the Cincinnati Bengals’ starter, leading them to four playoff berths and earning three Pro Bowl invitations.

This move to the Panthers will mark Dalton’s fourth team in as many seasons. In his time with the Saints, he completed 66.7 percent of his passes and threw for 2,871 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

It’s worth noting that former Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold recently signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Dalton’s signing is expected to boost the Panthers’ quarterback depth and provide the team with valuable experience and leadership in absence of Sam Darnold.
