An injured hamstring can be a major headache for Djokovic in the De Minaur test
In the fourth round of the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic will take against Alex de Minaur. The left hamstring injury of the fourth seed is making things difficult. According to John McEnroe, De Minaur can bring problems for Djokovic.
McEnroe lauded Djokovic for “getting the job done” despite not looking fully fit on the court.
McEnroe thinks Minaur can become troublesome for Djokovic
Novak Djokovic’s fitness is questionable according to John McEnroe while facing a persistent hamstring problem, before his fourth-round Australian Open match against Alex De Minaur. McEnroe thinks the Australian can prove to be problematic for the 35-year-old.
‘It’s going to catch up to him if he’s not right’ – McEnroe said about Djokovic’s injury.
Djokovic has been dealing with a hamstring problem in his left leg the entire tournament, even while his victories over Roberto Carballes Baena, Enzo Coucaud, and Grigor Dimitrov.
Djokovic had to take regular treatment for a hamstring injury in his left hamstring in preparation for his following second match against Dimitrov.
He had earlier admitted that his injury is “not good at all,” which sparked rumors that his tournament could end. However, he persevered through another round and now faces a challenging test in the fourth round, about which McEnroe believes his hamstring will be stretched to its breaking point.
He said, “De Minaur, his next opponent, is someone that potentially [who could do that] because he relies on speed and grit and making an opponent work. The type of guy that could cause Novak problems if he’s not 100 percent.”
The 35-year-old will now face De Minaur, who defeated Benjamin Bonzi in straight sets on Monday morning,
McEnroe said that although he thinks it will take “something incredible” to defeat Djokovic, De Minaur can still dismantle the 21-time Grand Slam champion if he is injured and not 100 percent of himself.
“If he is 100 percent or close to that, then De Minaur is the type of guy who maybe can’t hurt him a lot, so Novak is a heavy favorite. This is difficult to say where he’s at right now.”
