MLB stadiums often welcome dogs during special events, but it seems they aren’t ready for alligators just yet. According to reports from The Philly Captain and sports radio host Howard Eskin, a fan tried to bring an alligator to Citizens Bank Park on a Wednesday night, claiming it was a service animal.

However, the alligator was not allowed into the stadium to watch the game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Despite the unusual start, the Wednesday night game turned into an exciting showdown. The Phillies, fresh off securing a playoff spot the night before, came back from a 5-0 deficit to win 7-6. Even with some star players like Trea Turner, Nick Castellanos, J.T. Realmuto, and Alec Bohm getting a night off, Bryce Harper stayed in the lineup and had an outstanding performance, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a stolen base, and a game-winning home run in the seventh inning.

Another highlight of the game was Orion Kerkering, a newcomer who started the season in Single-A. He pitched an inning without giving up any runs and secured a win in only his second MLB appearance. Kerkering could play a vital role in the Phillies’ bullpen during the postseason.

The Phillies have secured the first wild-card spot in the National League, which means they will host a best-of-three series next week. As it stands, they would face the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are currently two games ahead of the Chicago Cubs and the Miami Marlins.

Despite the unusual incident with the alligator, it’s clear that no reptiles will be allowed inside the ballpark when Philadelphia hosts Game 1 of the opening round next Tuesday.
