In a 42-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Dak Prescott struggled once more, leaving the Dallas Cowboys with a 3-2 record but many questions about how they will fare the rest of the regular season. The interception problems from 2022 have yet to be addressed after three further interceptions.

While Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan had a great night, the reality that Dak Prescott once again struggled to perform in a crucial game could not be overlooked. Some insults were directed at him, but none stood out more than a straightforward statement made by former 49ers safety Donte Whitner, who remarked in a live broadcast that “Dak Prescott s**ks.”

Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins, who just put in another strong effort in a contest in which his team completely dominated on offense, wasn’t happy with Whitner’s choice of words regarding Dak:

Dak Prescott performs poorly on national television once more.

There are now even more questions about Dak Prescott’s ability to guide the Cowboys to the promised land after his horror show in prime time.

Just over half of the throws were completed, there were three interceptions, and just two of the eight tries (1 TD, 2 INT) were successful beyond 10 yards from the line of scrimmage. San Francisco 49ers players surrounded him.

Given that it is unable to establish the pass/run balance that Mike McCarthy so desperately desired and was ineffective in all of them, this club needs an offensive identity that makes sense. It didn’t seem like a wise decision to fire Kellen Moore and hire Brian Schottenheimer at the time, and it feels much worse today.

The fact that Mike McCarthy’s side needed to appear prepared to play against a team at the greatest level throughout this game casts serious questions on their ability. Even if the squad is capable of easily qualifying for the playoffs, Sunday Night Football was a setback for the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys have Prescott under contract until the 2025 campaign. Prior to this season, there were discussions on a potential contract extension, but nothing came to pass. His 2023 performances are not doing him any favors.
