After a fantastic night, DJ Moore might be “pissed,” but the Chicago Bears couldn’t be happier
Thursday night’s football game was the best of DJ Moore’s life.
However, he was a little irritated later.
When the great wide receiver was questioned about a specific play near the conclusion of the third quarter, he appeared relaxed and exhausted as he quietly reviewed his career performance, which included eight receptions for 230 yards and three touchdowns in the Chicago Bears’ 40-20 blowout of the Washington Commanders. You remember, DJ, when you caught a pass down the right sideline, avoided rookie CB Emmanuel Forbes Jr., and headed for the end zone. However, it was claimed that you stepped out of bounds, reducing a potential 63-yard touchdown to a 32-yard gain.
He responded, his voice picking up, “Nah, so that really pissed me off, and I was about to score,” adding with a hint of wrath. I was eligible for four touchdowns. The referee must perform his duties, after all.
“It is what it is. I’m not all that upset about it because we won.
Moore wasn’t actually furious, to be straight and honest. He admitted to feeling “out of this world nervous” before the game as a graduate of the nearby University of Maryland. After a disastrous 0-4 start to the current campaign, which had increased the 104-year-old franchise’s longest-ever losing skid to 14 games, hours later, he and his teammates seemed more relieved than anything else.
After the Bears finished last in passing offense in 2022, when asked why it was so crucial to acquire Moore in that deal, head coach Matt Eberflus had an answer that had nothing to do with catches and yards after the catch.
“As a result of his standing, He works hard and makes a wonderful teammate, according to Eberflus. He works, uplifts everyone around him, and lends a hand.
Chicago’s offensive is improving at last.
It got out to a slow start, but over the last two weeks, it’s scored 68 points and piled up 922 yards, with Moore and third-year quarterback Justin Fields (four touchdown throws in each game) doing the bulk of the damage. Moore’s 230 yards on Thursday are the second-highest ever amassed by a Bear in a single game, the most versus Washington since 1966, and the most by any receiver in the league this season. His 20-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter set up Moore’s continuous runs over, through, and around the Commanders defenders. With little over four minutes remaining, a 56-yard catch-and-run for his third touchdown dashed any dreams of a Washington comeback.
And with Fields appearing to be getting out of his slump from the start of the season and the Panthers first-round pick in 2024 looking like a probable top-five pick? Considering the long-term prospects, it’s difficult to remain really irate.
Moore is “just warming up,” according to Bears safety Jaquan Brisker. “It’s going to get scary pretty soon.”
Even Moore, who at his postgame press conference jokingly accepted a call from his fiance, had to agree that things are finally looking brighter.
You know, it was just enjoyable. After a long day of playing a kid’s game, football is lovely, he remarked, admitting that this was his best effort yet.
“Tonight was just the stars coming together. I’m just pleased with it.
