Adam Scott at the 2023 Australian PGA Championship
Adam Scott is set to compete in the Australian PGA Championship. The former Masters winner returned to familiar territory for the DP World Tour co-sanctioned tournament, looking to recapture his winning form.
The 43-year-old Australian admitted that it was difficult to ‘fake the confidence of closing out a tournament’ when he had yet to win in a long time. On Wednesday, he told the media at the Royal Queensland Golf Club that he intends to quit pretending to be confident.
The former World No.1, who hasn’t won a PGA Tour event since his 14th at the Genesis Invitational in 2020, is aiming to win the Australian PGA Championship this weekend. The experienced golfer noted that winning on his home turf may have an impact as a “springboard” for his career.
According to Golf Australia, Adam Scott remarked before the Australian PGA Championship:
“It’s difficult to fake the confidence of winning a tournament and defeating the entire field.” It may be a springboard if I win this week or next (at the Australian Open in Sydney). It has occurred before, and not just to me.”
It’s worth noting that Adam Scott finished T5 at the Bermuda Championship earlier this month. Despite a mixed season, the golfer has managed to remain in the OWGR top 50. However, the PGA Tour pro remarked that playing well does not equal the confidence boost that comes with a win.
He went on to say:
“I’m not going to get the same confidence from simply competing and performing well.” It’s wonderful to perform well; I did so in Bermuda. But it’s not a victory. So, winning this championship at my home track would be a fantastic experience.”
It’s worth noting that Scott has already ended long-running winless streaks. After an extended layoff due to the COVID outbreak, the golfer won at the Gold Coast’s Royal Pines in 2019.
The golfer has also seen significant success at the Australian PGA Championship. His victory in the 2013 tournament contributed to his historic Masters victory the following year. Adam Scott will compete in the Australian PGA Championship in 2023 alongside Adrian and Cameron Davis.
Despite having the home-field advantage, he’ll have some stiff opposition this weekend. The Royal Queensland Golf Club lineup will include reigning champion Cameron Smith, Min Woo Lee, and Robert MacIntyre, among others.
