4 U.S. Soccer GOATs According to Landon Donovan
Landon Donovan, a prominent figure in U.S. Soccer, recently shared his picks for the greatest American soccer players. Surprisingly, he didn’t include himself.
Donovan named Mia Hamm from the USWNT, Clint Dempsey, who shares the all-time scoring record for the USMNT, Tim Howard, a former goalkeeper, and DaMarcus Beasley, a former defender, as his top four.
“I would say Mia Hamm, Dempsey, Tim Howard and DaMarcus Beasley,” Donovan said.
Mia Hamm is widely regarded as one of the best female soccer players ever. She scored 158 goals, the second-highest in USWNT history, and provided 147 assists, a record by a significant margin. Hamm won two World Cup titles, two Olympic gold medals, and four NCAA championships.
Clint Dempsey shares the top spot for the most goals in USMNT history, matching Landon Donovan’s 57 goals. He achieved this milestone in 141 appearances, giving him a higher goal per game ratio than Donovan.
Tim Howard is widely considered the greatest goalkeeper in USMNT history. He played exceptionally in multiple World Cups and kept 42 clean sheets in his 121 appearances.
DaMarcus Beasley was a dedicated player both on and off the field, serving the USMNT for 17 years. He ranks seventh in all-time caps with 126 appearances
