The New York Knicks won’t be keeping Derrick Rose for the upcoming season, as they have already declined his $15.6 million team contract resulting in the 34-year-old player becoming a free agent this summer.

Although Rose didn’t have many great performances to show his skills in New York last year there is still hope that he can perform really well for the team. He might become a valuable addition to a championship-contending team if given the right opportunity.

Now that he is set to become a free agent there are already teams who have their eyes on him.

According to Steve Popper of Newsday, four teams are considered frontrunners in pursuing Rose: the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, and Chicago Bulls.

“There are contending teams — the Lakers, Suns, Celtics or even a return to his hometown Bulls — who could have minutes available at point guard for Rose,” he wrote.

According to some previous events, Derrick Rose has been linked to Los Angeles in recent years. although there had never been a rumor about them signing a contract, there was always interest from both sides.

With Chris Paul being traded to the Golden State Warriors, the Lakers lost their best chance of acquiring a veteran point guard. Rose could be a good alternative for them.

If not the Lakers, the Phoenix Suns also make a lot of sense. Rose may not be a starting point guard for a championship team, but in limited minutes on a roster filled with superstars like the Suns, he could still make a significant impact.

As for the Boston Celtics, Marcus Smart’s departure has left a big gap at the point guard position. Rose would fit well in that role and it could possibly give him his best opportunity to win a championship out of all the available options.

His joining the Chicago Bulls is also a possibility. Rose has made it clear how much the Bulls mean to him.

In any case, Rose will have the opportunity to shine elsewhere in the upcoming 2022-23  season. Where he will be playing when the new season begins is yet to be determined. Only time will tell.
