3 NBA teams have their eyes set on Kyle Kuzma
Kyle Kuzma, a player of the Washington Wizards came off the 2022-23 season with flying colors and had the career-best numbers. The 27-year-old player averaged 21.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.
His heroic gameplay and his performance in the last season make him a new star that everyone wanna get their hands on. He’s coming off as a new star and gaining popularity. There is a reason for Kuzma and his wife’s wild photos go viral on social media last month.
With everything that has happened, Kuzma is in a great position this summer. He has a player option that could give him $13 million for the 2023-24 season. However, instead of taking that option, he will opt out and see what offers he gets from other teams.
Based on current indications, Kuzma could easily command a salary of at least $20 million per year. This seems reasonable considering Dillon Brooks is looking for $25 million annually and still has many interested teams.
If Kuzma does decide to leave, 3 NBA teams have shown interest in acquiring him.
According to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, the New York Knicks are a team to watch.
“Other big names suggested as potential Knicks targets include Bradley Beal, Kyle Kuzma (expected to be a free agent this summer) and OG Anunoby,” he wrote recently.
Kuzma’s scoring abilities would greatly benefit the New York team, especially considering their difficulties in scoring during certain parts of the season. However, it’s important to note that Kuzma, Beal, and Anunoby all have distinct skill sets. The Knicks will need to decide what they want to focus on during the offseason.
The Utah Jazz have also shown interest in Kuzma. According to Dan Favale of B/R, Kuzma would fit in well with the Jazz’s current roster without any issues.
“The Jazz don’t need to prioritize a slow-burn rebuild with so many rival first-rounders under their belt,” he wrote.
“They can look to actively plug holes in the rotation and render themselves peskier irritants in the short term … Kuzma accomplishes just this. He isn’t the most scintillating shooter, but Utah deploys spacey lineups that can capitalize on his attacking inside the arc…
“Attainability could be an issue, but not an unworkable one. The Jazz can try paying Kuzma outright or brokering a sign-and-trade with Washington. And after playing three seasons at the University of Utah, his familiarity with the market could lend a helping hand.”
If the Jazz don’t stand out, another team to keep an eye on is the Los Angeles Lakers. They have a rich history, and it appears that Kuzma still holds affection for the organization. The Lakers demonstrated throughout their postseason run that they are in dire need of players who can generate their own offense.
There’s also a possibility that Kuzma could remain in Washington, D.C., but on a much larger contract. According to Pincus, there is speculation that he will stay with the Wizards, but it’s clear that the situation is subject to change.
This upcoming summer promises to be intriguing. With multiple teams competing to acquire Alex Caruso and three squads attempting to lure Jordan Clarkson away from the Jazz, many questions about player value and team strategies will be answered in the coming months.
